Stargate Dialing Simulator (5.0.1) - File Description

Tech: 9
Quality: 10
FunFactor: 10
Creativity: 10

Overall Rating: 9.8

Description:
This MSI installer includes some things that were not included with the other.

Original review:

There are so many things that need to be said so I'm not sure where to begin. Let me first start with the fact that you need flash in order to run this since it is created entirely in flash. If you don't currently have flash and are unsure as where to get it, download it here.

As soon as you have loaded the program you will be taken to a gate status screen. This shows all the current activity. By clicking on the little keyboard on the bottom you can make a larger keyboard appear and this contains all the stargate symbols needed to dial an outgoing wormhole. Obviously you are not expected to remember long and difficult gate addresses so there's an address book with a lot of addresses.

By clicking one of those addresses and then dial the gate you can establish an outgoing wormhole. You can choose what you would like to do next. You have the ability to send a SG team to explore or you can send a MALP first to check out if it's safe. Or send a UAV to get an aerial survey of the planet.

After you've send the MALP you can check out the planet by using the cameras on it. If you choose to send the UAV you can either look at the data it is transmitting back or you can get right to business and launch a few missile to destroy the enemy stronghold.

Now it wouldn't be fun if there were no incoming wormholes. Sometimes an allie or even an enemy dials earth and you need to make a decision which can save the planet or it may lead the total annihilation. Therefore you can open and close the iris at your discretion. You may also activate the autodestruction.

The only nitpick is that the authorization code for disarming the autodestruct is a bit long. The countdown is 10 seconds and it takes quite long to enter the code.

Check the readme for a list of all the shortcuts.

so what does it go thats new

#2 - Posted by: Ronnie (FileFront Head Network Admin) on 04-22-2005 at 12:01
I don't think there is anything new although I can't be too sure. Apparently there were some problems with the old MSI installer.

 #3 - Posted by: Hel_Jugoth (Member) on 04-22-2005 at 13:27
Well, no problems with the mac installer, so I think I'll keep it the way it is

#4 - Posted by: mdcobbin (FileFront Network Staff) on 04-22-2005 at 20:40

 #6 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 04-24-2005 at 02:03
Captin, the one you got from SGCSim.com is fine. I think the old installer had some problems with some people, and I think this one is fine, but if you have a version from sgcsim.com that works, then its the latest that you need.
The next version that comes out is 5.1.0, and that will have a lot of extras. We dont know a date for that at the moment, but I think it comes out this year.

 #11 - hey all - Posted by: Capt_Hood (Member) on 04-25-2005 at 01:40
Hey all I have a stargate dialing program simular to this but its made by ST Productions, I like it has anyone else ever heard of it?

 #12 - This isn't bad - Posted by: Capt_Hood (Member) on 04-25-2005 at 01:46
Pretty good simulator but i swear it was made by the same ppl who made my other stargate dialing program, except mine had all the symbols on the right and a few other changes

 #13 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 04-25-2005 at 08:05
-----is this 1 is more up to date e.g when u dial a gate off world it can be busy things like that

No, but that might be in the next version. This is exactly the same as the other one that was avaliable through this site, but I think a few installer problems were fixed. No program differences

-----so im stuck with the old 1 which does not hav a installer

It doesnt really matter. The zipped version from SGCSim.com has exactly the same content, but doesnt "install". That can actually be an advantage, if you have parents who read the "add/remove programs" list, as the zipped version leaves no trace of it there. Not that they would have a problem once they saw the program.

-----Hey all I have a stargate dialing program simular to this but its made by ST Productions, I like it has anyone else ever heard of it?

Yep, it was made by a person called Sam, who, after version 4.1, stopped working on it, and gave the code and rights of the sim, to Jason (and his team), who created 5.0.1, and are currently working on 5.1.0
If you are wondering where the symbols at the side went, well there is a button in this version, down the bottom, that says "Keyboard". Click on it, and there are your symbols.

 #14 - thanks - Posted by: Capt_Hood (Member) on 04-25-2005 at 23:57
hey #13 thanks, ya I got the feeling that it was based off the old program because it had the same sounds and such, but I still have to get used to the look of it I was kind of fond of the old program...neway I'll get over it lol

 #15 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 05-05-2005 at 08:02
Thats okay

#16 - Self Destruct and Iris - Posted by: Wraith_166 (Member) on 05-14-2005 at 08:38
It's an excellent simulator, no doubt, but two nagging questions: one, how do you acvitvate the Iris when you have an unscheduled offworld activation, and two, where is the Self Destruct disarming sequence and where is it typed into?

 #17 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 05-15-2005 at 05:08
Ah yes. The iris is very important.

At any time, you can press the "Right Arrow" button on your keyboard, to open/close the Iris.

When self destruct is activated (either by you or the jaffa), you can press the plus (+) button, click once in the box, and type the code displayed in the bottom left hand corner (with no dash though), and then press enter. If you are not fast enough, put that code into a text doc, copy it, and when you click in the box, press ctrl+v, and then enter.

I'm just trying to figure out how to close the iris!!!

 #19 - I am a team member - Posted by: hutchim (Member) on 05-21-2005 at 10:24
development of 5.1 has restarted and the latest team release has several new events etc.
This version has no new content compared to any other version5 series sim. (Jason has got the naming muddled a bit! smile )

 #20 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 05-21-2005 at 23:26
----I'm just trying to figure out how to close the iris!!!-----
Okay. Step one. Look at your keyboard. its the thing with letters and buttons on it. Its not at the screen, its what you type with.
Step 2. Press the arrow button, that points to the "RIGHT".
The iris will then close.
Do the same to open it.

What I need to do if Re'Tu arrives?

#22 - Posted by: hutchim (Member) on 05-25-2005 at 05:07

and whats that thing in the 5th screenshot?

 #26 - ANSWERS - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 06-02-2005 at 08:20
With these answers, I *****ume you know how a Stargate works. Eg, One way Wormholes, Malp, etc.

~~vodazzz (Member)~~
~~What I need to do if Re'Tu arrives?~~

When they come through ,and the gate closes, and it says "Ree'tou Detected", press the "Left Arrow" button on your keyboard. It gets rid of them.

~~Private_Grif (Member)~~
~~wat is "the interphase"? and why cant I send a team through?~~

The interphase is the thing I describe up there ^. The thing that gets rid of the Ree'tou.
And sending a team through is done like this. Dial a planet. When you have dialed, and the gate is open, click the spinning logo in the top left corner, and select a team.

~~Guest ~~
~~how do you activate the self destruct sequence?~~

either shift+D or ctrl+D. I cant remeber. I explained in an earlier post (either this list, or in the previous file) how to disable it.

~~Guest ~~
~~and whats that thing in the 5th screenshot?~~

Its the Iris Pad thingy. It does the same this as using the right arrow button. Its actually useless at the moment.

I hope that helped.

 #27 - Dailing Out - Posted by: ja_hardy945495 (Member) on 06-08-2005 at 03:50
I know that you can dial a stargate address randomly on the keyboard, but is it possible to actually establish a wormhole with your randomly dialed address? If it is can you give us some addresses please?

 #28 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 06-09-2005 at 04:02
No, random addresses are not possible. You can put in the symbols, but chev 7 wont lock, and no wormhole will open.

If you open the address book, and write down the symbols, and then manually dial the symbols you wrote down, it will work.

 #29 - Site Down - Posted by: Chaos_Killer (Member) on 06-13-2005 at 11:01

Yeah, its been down for a while. They are having server problems.. When I get any news about this, ill post it here, if it has not been posted in news.

 #34 - Posted by: Guest (10.1.82.14) on 06-28-2005 at 22:51
I cant open the address book or establish malp images and UAV stuff ... hax.

#35 - Posted by: fedmods (Member) on 07-01-2005 at 05:58
I can't send a malp! What can i do?

#36 - Posted by: fedmods (Member) on 07-01-2005 at 05:59
Sorry for the double post, but to clarify. If i try to send a malp on any planet it does not work. I can send SG teams and a UAV but when i click the MALP button tnothing happens.

 #37 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 07-15-2005 at 02:58
About the MALP -
Sometimes the MALP will not work. This is because there is no image set for that planet. If a good still shot with no people in it is not shown for a planet (near the gate), a malp image can not be set. And because of that, some planets dont work with the malp.

 #38 - Posted by: Guest (cpe-68-201-119-48.gt.res.rr.com) on 07-25-2005 at 17:02
anyway of unlocking the addresses that are locked out like to dial there

 #39 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 07-27-2005 at 05:59
No, you cant "Unlock" them, but if you write down the symbols, and dial the address manually, you can dial them.

 #40 - Posted by: Guest (cpe-68-201-119-48.gt.res.rr.com) on 07-27-2005 at 15:34
thanks i try it

 #41 - MALP - Posted by: Guest (c-24-34-86-8.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) on 07-28-2005 at 23:26
Also with the MALP, this may be common sense, but make sure you have the iris open before you try ti send the MALP through, if you send a team through with the iris closed, the iris opens automatically, but if you try to send a malp through with the iris closed, nothing happens

 #42 - Evacuation - Posted by: JGrenham25 (Member) on 10-02-2005 at 05:32
Should there be the EVAC animation from episode Chain Reaction. I think it would be superb idea!!!!!!!!!!cool

 #43 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 10-04-2005 at 08:42
There might be in the next version (v5.1.0 - not released yet), but I am unsure.
There is a "Code 9" screen. Just hit space bar anywhere within the sim.

If you have any more questions, the people at forums.sgcsim.com know all about the sim. The Lead Developers and Team Members check there nearly every day, plus the rest of the community who are very knowledgeable about the simulator.

I open it up and whenever I try to se the gate the program freezes. I tried the website and the forums but they are both down.

Quote:

Opening up the program shows the gate - There shouldnt be a problem. Can you give me more detail? I am happy to help.

Quote:

The website at the moment is just a placeholder. it does contain links to stuff, but most of that can be found on the forums anyway.
The forums are fine, but occasionally on my computer it says "forums.sgcsim.com can not be found". I have a theory that the server the forums are hosted on sometimes has trouble with countries far away from the united states. for example, I live in australia, and I have problems connecting to the site sometimes, but none of the americans there seem to have a problem.
If you try going to the forums and it wont work, try a few more times. If not, come back in a few hours.
If the forums are actually down (not just problem connecting), it will usually be listed here.

#46 - Auto Destruct Countdown and due out? - Posted by: JGrenham25 (Member) on 11-05-2005 at 07:12
Is the Auto Destruct Countdown going to be longer in the new version ( I mean like you can chose how long you want it running for) Two Thumbs Up!

Also when is V5.1.0 due out and when are going to be updates on the website?

 #47 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 11-06-2005 at 22:59
Quote:

I am not sure. Its possible, but I am not sure.....

Quote:

Most updates are done at forums.sgcsim.com, not sgcsim.com. Jason (lead developer) has a really busy life, but I think he is going to release a public beta of 5.1.0 in the next few months. Its not officially decided yet, but check forums.sgcsim.com, and go to the SGCSim board (not the site updates), and look for news.
Ill give you a direct link when I can access the site again (Australian ISP's have trouble connecting to the site)

quote from Jason (lead developer)

Quote:
Alright guys, what should I do? I've come to the realization that if I ever do finish v5.1.0 that it wont be for awhile, so I'm going to let the communtiy help out here. Should I

A. Release v5.1.0 as is
Basicly you'll be getting the same version that I have, alot of the v5.0.1/2 bugs have been fixed but there are some new ones and because I havent worked on it in ages, I dont remember what things are half-finished or in the process of being worked on so some things may not work and may require a reboot of the sim if it runs

B. Lets wait a few months
Basicly you're going to wait a few months and see if I can ever find the time to finish the sim, all the new features and get rid of the bugs

C. Release a 'public beta' so we can call play with it
We understand that there may be ALOT of bugs, but we want the new UI, the new Stargate, the new IRIS and other screens now! This means that I might debug some things as bugs are found.

Like it says guys, I literaly was in the middle of working on v5.1.0 when I just stopped, I dont remember what I was working on nor what things were in development so I dont know what is working, fixed or broke. Some things like the Iris and Gate Diagnostic screen are pretty much done, but there are some INCOMPLETE incoming wormholes that will cause you to reboot the program or site there while nothing happens for five minutes along with a bunch of other stuff which I can even remember.

You deceide and I'll check this later and we'll go from there.

Please note I'm still debating wether to even do this, so if everyone votes 'yes', it doesnt gauruntee you'll see it online next week.

so far the votes are like this...

Quote:
A. Release v5.1.0 as is [ 3 people ] [10.34%]
B. Lets wait a few months [ 2 people ] [6.90%]
C. Release a 'public beta' so we can call play with it [ 24 people ] [82.76%]

If u want a list of all the secret commands i have found so far go 2 http://www.geocities.com/sonix24079/sgc.html this page includes some commands that involve the 8TH CHEVERON!

 #50 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 11-12-2005 at 06:34
There are more secret commands and events, and some are pretty cool. I know a lot of them, but not all of them.

I'll tell you one.

Go to the addresses page. use the down arrow on the directory list. see a flickering box down below? see if you can get it to stay. Then click on it

 #51 - Posted by: neo2407 (Member) on 11-12-2005 at 10:45

 #53 - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 12-20-2005 at 17:47
I love this dialing programme. It is brilliant. But why don't they try to put some of the extras from the Beta Dialing Program such as the ability to run a diagnostic or an iris impact moniter?

 #54 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 12-21-2005 at 03:39
Because the latest version (this version) was released 2003/2004 sometime, while the "lex dial beta" was released 2005. Jason, (lead dev of sgcsim) was working on the next version, but its on hold right now. He is making a decision to release a public beta of the next version or not. My theory is he will release it on christmas day, but its doubtful.

The reason none of that is in there is because (a) it isnt in there yet, and there are heaps of other stuff people have suggested to put in, (b) the sim is 'cannon' meaning as accurate to whats in the show as possible, and things rarely seen in the show are harder to program in, and (c) its possible some of that stuff will be in next version..

If you have any more questions or suggestions or whatever, feel free to ask at forums.sgcsim.com
There is a good community there, and are all happy to help as long as you dont act like a n00b or anything. Oh, and remeber to read other topics first, cause a lot of stuff has already been covered.

 #55 - Posted by: JGrenham25 (Member) on 12-26-2005 at 09:22
Did he say Yes or No

If Yes, Is it nearly ready?
If No, Why Not?

 #56 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 12-27-2005 at 02:40
He just swapped over the Forum/Site server to another one, plus he is working on another mini-project, that version 1 of will be released in a few weeks.

When he gives an answer, ill let you know, plus its likely it will be uploaded here when it is.

He is quite busy, with various websites, a job, sgcsim, and this other 'secret' project (not stargate related), and his life. I expect he will give an answer soon. Dont worry, it will be posted here when its known. When/if the beta of 5.1.0 is released, Ill submit it as a news topic, with a link to the download.

If you open the dialing program and put it into a windowed view and then make the window as skinny as possible, you will see two things down the bottom which were in the old version of the simulator. It is an iris control and a power meter.

 #60 - Posted by: JGrenham25 (Member) on 01-09-2006 at 10:41
Is V5.1.0 nearly done yet? If it is ready where will it be placed first SGCSIM.com or Stargate Filefront?

When 5.1.0 is ready, it will be on sgcsim.com first, but should be submitted to here soon after that.

Jason (SGCSim creator) just released BSGSim (Battlestar Galactica Sim), which you can find on the SGCSim.com forums, so that has taken a bit of his time. I will ask him what his plans are for the release of 5.1.0

 #62 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 01-10-2006 at 05:58
I asked Jason, and got a responce. I put it in a news topic and submitted it, so please give the staff a few days to review it, and it should be up on the main page here at sg1files.com

Go to the Forums, (forums.sgcsim.com) and and right under the "SGCSim Project" forum, you will see "BSGSim Project"

 #65 - Posted by: JGrenham25 (Member) on 01-19-2006 at 11:26
is the SIM nearly ready yet?

YES / NO

Please look at the news at sg1files.com

Its a very recent news article. Please read it. It contains the answer.

When i was playing, i received an unscheduled offworld activation, that was SG-1 returning from a planet (from othala or other from page 7) in an emergency situation before time, and a few seconds later this green things apears on screen ( http://usera.imagecave.com/tatsuma3/greenthing.JPG ). How can i remove it?

 #70 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 02-02-2006 at 01:32
ah that - thats a bug - not a program bug, but a bug that came through the gate. You cant remove it without restarting the program, as the "Gate Dialling Guy" Walter is dead from the bug. You can stop it from getting there in the first place, by closing the iris when oneill yells to close the iris.

 #71 - ask - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 20:01
tpg1989, could you ask Jason for me whether he would consider putting on his website the M.A.L.P. image updates that I have created. I have many. I created them for my own personal use and I'd like to share them.

 #72 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 02-24-2006 at 05:50
Ill ask him, and let you know his response. He might want a sample before giving an answer though. Ill let you know.

I messed that post up. If someone could fix it that would be really good.

 #76 - Posted by: tpg1989 (Member) on 02-24-2006 at 15:42
Chris, here is his response...

[quote=Jason]There wont be any MALP updates.

So no, he will not put them on his site.

But you could upload them (zipped) to SG1files.com (here) as I dont think it is illegal to add stuff into SGCSim, as long as all the code is unaltered. If all you did was create a swf file with the planet name, and thats it, then that is perfectly legal I think.
I would love to see them.

 #77 - tpg1989 - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 02-26-2006 at 20:04
Yeah, all I did was open some of the original M.A.L.P. images and changed the pics, I have some M.A.L.P. images that are good but I don't really know which planet is which and what planet that the M.A.L.P. image corresponds to such as the the Goa'uld actual homeworld and such, many of them are really high quality DVD screen caps that I have turned into transperencies and edited them with the standard puddle animation. Ba'als outpost is one that I am really proud of, it corresponds to a proper planet and everything, Tartarus is also good. tpg1989, if I want to share them with other people what exactly would I have to do?

 #78 - tpg1989 - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 02-26-2006 at 20:07
Altantis is another good one that I have created, it features some of the hallways and a better gate than the original image. (I think anyways). Also, when you dial Atlantis a window pops up showing the eighth chevron like it does in Rising part 1. This is created in planete.swf, trust me, editing this and finding out how to do it was hours of hell.

 #79 - New Screen - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 02-27-2006 at 16:11
Look, since it might take a while to sort through all of the M.A.L.P. images and get everything right, I'll tell you what you can do, when I downloaded the program for the first time, there was a file called iris_diag.swf. There is also a file called update.swf. If you can swap the names of these files and then press "U" in the program (that's captial U), you will have a semi-working gate diagnostic screen. Since Jason doesn't release updates like Sam did anymore, the giving away of update.swf won't make any difference at all. If you can't find the iris_diag.swf file, redownload the program or contact me and I'll email to you if it is too much of a big download. I don't know if this file was included with earlier downloads but Jason created it just recently and it is one of the screens that you will see hopefully when 5.10 will be released.

Upload them to a free web hosting thing. like freewebs.com Then give people the link to the site.

Thats a good idea!

I have iris_diag.swf
Jason didnt mean to include it, and asked me not to tell anyone, but you discovered it on your own.

But yeah, if you could upload your MALP files to freewebs.com or something, and link to them here, that would be really cool.

 #93 - Posted by: neo2407 (Member) on 03-14-2006 at 18:55
Jason Cox, the leader of the SGCsim team, said its on permanent hold. He may start working on it again but he doesn't know

Has anyone got the link working, Neo, I thought you got it working?

 #95 - Posted by: neo2407 (Member) on 03-16-2006 at 09:20
nm the Kheb 1 is working now

 #96 - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 03-19-2006 at 20:04
I can guarantee you that there is absolutely no problem with any of these files. If you have installed them and are still having problems, read the readme file included with the swfs in the zip file. For these files to work you must replace the original planete.swf with the new one that I included.

 #97 - Posted by: Gen_Master (Member) on 03-19-2006 at 21:24
Is there going to be another version coming out casue if there is it would be cool if you could dial the places that use the 8th cheveron.

 #98 - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 03-20-2006 at 17:24
There are addresses that use the 8th chevron they are Atlantis and Othala

 #99 - Posted by: nnagod3 (Member) on 03-23-2006 at 07:34
What is the count to maximum lifespan

 #100 - Posted by: nnagod3 (Member) on 03-25-2006 at 08:18
Will there be a space map witch would include all the planets from the adress book in the 5.1.0. like it does in the Dial Sim 2004 Public Beta? And the iris diagnostic sreen witch shows impacts? And the inner ring should spin in both directions like in Public Beta. I hope that picture will move more smoothly.

What can I do with UAV?

 #101 - Running Smoothly - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 03-26-2006 at 20:40
If you want the sim's graphics to move better, right click on your screen and put the quality down to medium and it will run a great deal smoother. I have put forward a topic at SGCSim about the Iris Impact Moniter. You can dial Atlantis and Othala and at the last bit of the dialing sequence maybe about chevron 7 it will run in the opposite direction. The count to Maximum lifespan is the counter that shows how long the gate has been open and the gate will automatically shutdown after about 38 minutes.

#102 - Posted by: kdifgdt (Member) on 03-28-2006 at 23:24
That map would be a good idea.

 #103 - Posted by: Conor1991 (Member) on 04-03-2006 at 12:59
How are these dialling sims made? I'd like to give it a go.... And do one that looks like the one actually used in season 9...

#104 - Posted by: CptCox (Member) on 04-08-2006 at 23:30
Hello Conor1991-
SGCSim was created using Macromedia/Adobe Flash. There is a version of SGCSim created that looks similar to the S7/8/9 dialing computers but it's release is up in the air now. There will never be a true S9 SGCSim because if you look closely the dialing computer changes every few episodes.

 #105 - Download This Stat! - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 04-20-2006 at 18:46
I made a new screen for the dialing program, it moniters the gate's stability and current activity. Make sure to read the readme before installing it.

 #118 - Forget it - Posted by: Chris474 (Member) on 08-06-2006 at 22:11
You know, I'm not going to release anything I have made anymore. With the cancellation of SGCSim. I don't want to ruin the legacy of such a great project. I don't really know if Jason would approve of me creating new screens anyway. The last thing I will do is release a fix for the fonts in the M.A.L.P. updates in planete.swf.

 #119 - Trouble in Paradise - Posted by: clg01 (Member) on 08-16-2006 at 13:26
I like this sim very much. However, I read that you could send teams on some planets. I can't! I've opened the gate to a dozen or more planets. On all, I can send the UAV. On a few, I can send the Mapping unit. On none can I send an SG team. Any helpful hints?

 #120 - Level 2 Access - Posted by: hyperzero4 (Member) on 09-16-2006 at 11:33
Alright, I'm a complete idiot for not saving/taking a picture this screen. I got it in the last few seconds in the self destruct. I actually got a to a level 2 access screen with all kinds of stuff on it (instead of the normal Level 1 access that usually comes up). It included the stargate's activity, IDC Activity, and all kinds of other stuff on the left side of the screen. I have no clue exactly how I did it, I'm just wondering if anyone else got this. I did this by first putting the screen in 100% instead of show all. Then I did the Ctrl + W while the Jaffa were entering the stargate (iris was open). I started cliking on the right side and mashing buttons as well. Then I was in this level 2 screen all of a sudden with the self destruct counting down. It was pretty cool. Has anyone else gotten this?

I was just curious, I remember there beign a way to 'pause' the incoming wormholes, so as to allow the gate to remain 'idle'. How can this be done? It's been a while since I had this sim, but I wanted to keep it on my computer when I am not using it, without 'uninvited guests' dialing my gate.
